My corporeal form lives with my wonderful wife and six eccentric cats in beautiful Sedgefield, but my dreaming body is frequently elsewhere, exploring the fractal universe and marveling at nature's chaos. I love traveling to places that exist only as mathematical constructs on my computer and bringing back snapshots that sometimes remind me of the real world (whatever that means), sometimes of metamagical worlds we can visit only in our imaginations. I trained as a biologist and run a small company specialising in science publishing - writing, editing, illustrating and typesetting. For 3D world building I use Vue, Daz Studio and Poser, but I've also used Bryce since version 2 and done some work with Terragen, Carrara and Groboto. For technical illustration I use mainly Illustrator and Photoshop.
Thanks for visiting my little corner of Renderosity, and to everyone who has kindly commented on my images or added my works as a favourite, thank you for that too. Craig.

My guess is that the fog is in front of the figure, but I've never used Vue. Whatever the cause the result is excellent. It has a painterly quality that really works well with this image. Cool scene!

Very cool scene...love the way the foreground figure looks like it was moving through the scene...maybe a DOF setting was involved?

marvelous

Excellent scene!!

Great lighting, wowzo! The empath in the foreground is quite stunning contrasted with the poor character in the background. The empath seems to react to the others pain. What a great idea for a scene. Well done, it's wonderful.

Love the concept, and the result is fabulous! Great light, terrific composition, and whatever render setting created that depth of field thing, it served you well. Outstanding piece, my friend!

First, as I go through your older work, I want to comment on various pieces only to find I already did, and I want to go up to 'anahata.c' and say, "what're YOU doing here! I got things to say, jack!" Well, given that ol' bigmouth already took up half the page, I'll move onto others. (I really was upset to see I'd commented! I wanted to say "who ASKED ya!" Basically, when you start screaming at your own avatar, you need to move on...) I realized with this image that you have a sense of the unexplainable that is also fully organic. Organic in the sense that everything in your images is fully integrated, fully part of the world you create. So while the images seem so strange & 'new' to us, they make total sense within their own bounds. And that's what you have here. Empathy, deep empathy, is, to me, a very mysterious thing; and the strange empath here 'gets' it, she's totally immersed in her inner world---essential to empathizing with others---and she's almost hazy, as if she has to withdraw from her outer self in order to commune with someone else's 'inner' self. (It looks like she has a blindfold on.) That, I think, is one of the mysterious contradictions of empathy...And then you have that mysterious 'other' person, we don't know who she is or why she's there (it's a she, I assume); but she seems totally part of the scene. Assumedly she's the one the empath is communing with---maybe even without her knowledge. And it all takes place inside a medieval interior, with gothic arched windows, the compound pillars, the intersecting arches above (actually rounded/romanesque rather than gothic, as some gothic structures had both), the leaded glass and all that mysterious light & shadow that was the mystique of those old structures. It doesn't have to have any religious connotations, but it sure has mystery-connotations, which is what this is all about. It's a perfect setting for the empathic act. And it's a moody, mysterious & largely unexplained moment, of intense connection. Very well executed & leaving us with an unwritten story. I can see why Tara has worked with you so often. Your pieces often have large back-stories. Wonderfully done, Craig.
