Description

A special model ( the ultimate of my Santa Fe's series ) for 2 of my old RR friends : Mikeerson and Zoren. A little bit of history : a caboose is a manned North American rail transport vehicle coupled at the end of a freight train. Although cabooses were once used on nearly every freight train, their use has declined and they are seldom seen on trains, except on locals and smaller railroads. The caboose provided the train crew with a shelter at the rear of the train. The crew could exit the train for switching or to protect the rear of the train when stopped. They also inspected the train for problems such as shifting loads, broken or dragging equipment, and hot boxes. The conductor kept records and handled business from a table or desk in the caboose. For longer trips the caboose provided minimal living quarters, and was frequently personalized and decorated with pictures and posters. The most common caboose form in American railroad practice has a small windowed projection on the roof, called the cupola. The crew sat in elevated seats in order to inspect the train from this perch. Now I begin something rare on the web as a 3D model ( because of the lack of blueprints? )

I was wondering when the Caboose was going to come into play here..I have to say your entire train blows mine totally out of the water..This inspires me to take my very own train out of storage and focus on adding more details to be able to hold a candle to yours...Most Excellent My Friend!!....definite fav.!!

fantastic, my favorite car on a train track... The trains I see around have the caboose - a lot of coal cars are seen here in Colorado... it truely is amazing how strong a train engine is... I've counted full coal cars after coal cars - over 100 close to 200.... that's a lot of feak'n weight - lol I love how you did the whole train, matching colors, designs - FINE DETAIL... as I said before, I had a train as a kid that looked identical you your models you made.... this was a very special series and love how you finished it off with the caboose.

Nice caboose; it's a shame they are not in use any longer. Automation marches ahead, undaunted!
