Description

Taking a break in historical architecture... I modelled this spaceship in voxels in 3D-Coat. After various tries to get a decent result with automatic-retopology (without success, autopo not being suitable for hard-surface retopo), I finally ended with a manual retopo, then painted and textured the object in 3D-Coat, with a fairly good polycount, I think (5404 polygons, here). Rendered in lightwave.

It is a nice model but the interesting subject is how it was done! I agree with your comments on 3DCoat's automatic-retopology. Its main drawback is that it closes all openings and in the process destroy the edges!

You're right. That's why it's much better in this case to run for manual retopology. With a graphic tablet and a 3D mouse, it's really fast, and you get a total control on your polygon flow.

Nice model, although I have no idea what you are talking about as I don't have that program.
