Description

Crufts is over for another year, those dogs that arn't already qualified for next year, will be trying to do so. My girls are all qualified for life. Sitting watching the seven dogs that had won their various groups last night for Best in Show I was thinking on what the new owner of the fox terrier, who won the terrier group was saying on TV). From what I can gather he has bought this dog, (not sure how old it is, would say 18mth/2years?) Now this fella is from abroad, (think South America area) he is going to take this dog all over the world showing. Making him into a multi champion. All well & good for him BUT what about the poor dog? He has lived with his current owner, now he is being jetted off with a stranger, (it is not as if he is a puppy) to a different country & being dragged all over the world. Don't get me wrong I am sure he will get very well looked after but is he going to become a commodity? I love showing the girls, getting them ready & presenting them to the best of my ability but they are also a part of our family & I like them to enjoy life, get mucky, have fun & get into mischief. I just wonder when I see the beautiful coated breeds if they are allowed to get dirty & knotty. I saw the little Yorkshire terriers with their curlers in & pyjamas on, surely they are not like that from show to show :o( Dogs in clothes (don't mean coats to keep warm & dry when out) is one of my pet hates :o( Anyway perhaps it is me thats a bit silly :o) Thanks for all the lovely comments & favs, so, so appreciated. xxxx

No...not silly at all. I've never really thought about this question but it reminds me of the stagedoor parent pushing their darling little girl or boy onto every stage they can find to win beautiful baby/child contests...living their lives vicariously through their children and hoping to make a movie star out of them. Your girls get a much different view of life...fields, farms, heaths, walks and runs...and they get dirty in the process! All very natural in my book. BTW, how many baths do they get each week??? :-)

Awww, look at the Girls, they are so happy. I think if I would show my dogs I would do it like you do. Ben and Eddie are such a part of our family and they need to have fun and play and get dirty .... They are DOGS. Why people put Clothes on an Animal is beyond me, I hate it, they are Animals!

Wonderful collage of the girls here Barbara, and congratulations to them for all their wins recently. I totally agree with your thoughts on the situation the poor dog is in as he jets all over with a total stranger.

Barbara, I enjoy your postings so much because your girls are normal dogs. Yes, they win ribbons and certificates but seeing them racing around the cow fields, putting up pheasants or slopping around in the mud. I will admit that I wouldn't want to have to clean up Jasmine, as she is in the lower left photo. Beautiful collage and individual photos. Dana

Nope, don't like clothes on dogs. Maybe the owners should be dressed up like dogs? Great shots. CC

I have a friend who breeds and shows. Her dogs are handled by someone other then her, and are on the road for extensive periods of time. During that time they don't have much freedom, I don't think, and I cannot believe that's good for them. When they are home, they have the run of the house pretty much, but they don't have the life your dogs, or mine, have. I don't see much point in having a dog if they don't enjoy their lives, and I don't enjoy them. Most of the people that I've met who breed and show, don't take their dogs out for interesting walks, or out in the country, or let them race through mud and snow and all such fun things. And that's what keeps me coming back to YOUR gallery. Your girls have such an interesting life, and because of that, they've developed such character. You can see the joy for life in their eyes. It's people like you who help to give breeders and showdog parents a good name. Bless you Barb. What wonderful, wonderful pictures you've shown us today!
