Description

Our showgirl in a million. (I may have used this pic before) She fitted in so well with Jenna, Hester & Pagan. She was such a pretty mischievous pup. We did have a scare with her though, we took her for her jabs but she got a reaction to them & ended up with the symptoms of distemper. She never stopped eating & was still full of it but it was not a nice thing. She was fine thankfully. I don't know about others but we don't vaccinate the girls every year, they do have their leptospirosis though. I have them blood tested every three years to see what the levels of immunity is in their blood. Carla hasn't had a booster for distemper, parvo etc., since 2000, her levels are still high. Same with Meadow. Even Jasmine who is a lot younger. Thankfully I have a superb vet who looks after the girls & Buck so well. Thanks for all the lovely comments & favs, so, so appreciated. xxx

Such a sweetie with a cute little pout :) I assumed dogs need boosters each year - that's what we do. I'll ask our vet next time Maya's is due (they send us a reminder in the post)

Gorgeous image. Your dogs all look wonderful. We have a problem around here with rabies, mostly skunks, our vet strongly encourages rabie vaccine every year. I'm not sure if it would be okay to miss a year but maybe so.

She was just so adorable, just look at that kind face. I agree as you know, as regards booster shots, and neither of my girls have had the full wack since they were just over a year old. Now aged almost 7 years they too just have the Leptospirosis jab on a yearly basis because that is the vaccine that does not stay in their system, much above a year. Wonderful shot here Barbara, see you Friday, hugs and love xxxxxxxxxx

Fine girl...Hattie. Mandy gets her shots annually but that's good for the vet's business. I am never sure what's best for Mandy...since we moved 1,900 miles we have a new lady vet. We have one other jab here that I don't think you haave to concern yourself with...rabies (but there is a three year type these days).

Like you, I don't give the vaccines just because they are suggested, or recommended, or offered. I used to titer, but after a lot of reading, I stopped all but the rabies, plus with the health issues we have, we don't want to chance vaccines compounding problems. Rabies shots are mandatory every three years in NY. Each state is different. Most vets here now recommend booster shots every three years for the major shots like the distemper. What I've been reading lately is that after the full course of puppy shots, and then one course of adult boosters, the dogs should be pretty much immune for life. It is stated that that the immune system has a memory, and even though titers show that levels of immunity have dropped, the body remembers and when it comes up against a disease it has received inoculations for, the immune system will sort of wake up and remember .. and reactivate. You are very lucky to have a good vet. Oh yes, I don't want to forget to tell you how beautiful Hattie is!
