Description

A follow up to my image with Jonathan Devlin. See, I told you we'd be seeing more of him! The Noir attack has begun! This started out as just a single piece, but quickly my film roots started to creep out and wanted to be flexed a bit (as they are want to do, from time to time) and it became more of a deconstructed scene... in stills. Kind of non-linear storytelling, I guess. There's nothing more Noir than a femme fatale and the one thing I love about good noir (notice the use of 'good'), is the topsy turvy nature of the usual norms. In this case, man is not necessarily stronger than woman (at least, not where it counts) and the woman gets the upper hand. I love fiction with strong female figures, so I thought I'd work a bit of that magic with this piece. I even managed to put a bit of writing in there (what you can make of it... but trust me, the story was there!). Hey, is it hot in here? *distributes fans* Click to enjoy full size! Loads of detail to be had there... And more steaminess too. ; )

You definitely captured the noir style. Is it me or is there some Frank Miller influence there? Great lighting and shadows. The textures are very rich too. Combining the story by using the set of "photos" is brilliant. Great job!

Miller has been a long-time influence, but not the main one for stuff like this. I'd cite more of the old noir filmmakers and modern directors like Ridley Scott. However, I love Miller, Eduardo Risso, and Jae Lee - all artists who love the liberal use of contrasty black and whites!

A briliant way to go by deconstructing it. It makes the central image all the more powerful and intriging. I love how you show the femme fatale's power over him with just a touch of a finger. Her confidence that her sexuality is stronger than his gun. It is like something from.... "Out of the Past".
