Description

Fee entrance to Akaka Falls is $5 per car for non resident and $1 per person parked outside of the parking area. Your fees will help improve our State Park. Resident tax dollars contribute to the general funds for State Park. I’m not sure I agree with our State on this. The tourist already spend a whole lot just to come to Hawaii. Mix feelings anyway. Picture was taken with a kodak playsport pocket camera.... Aloha and thank you for viewing PS "Akaka Falls vid"

Looks inviting! If they can afford to go to Hawaii, then that fee isn't so bad! Great shot! (:

The fee isn't so bad, dear Errol. I live in a tourist village and the car parking fees are very high. Wonderful capture. Hugs and Aloha. Diane. xx

Very nice shot. These point-and-shoot cameras are really improving! I suppose $5-$10 to see a nice park isn't bad. It is better than letting the Wicked Federal Gummermint handle it, thats for sure. At least you know the funds go to your States DNR or Parks Dept., whatever, and not to some indolant, control feak in DC.

Fantastically clear shot and I think everyone expects to pay nowadays.

Is that something new? There were no fees when we visited Akaka. If there had been, a mere $5 wouldn't have stopped us. It's very reasonable. I'm originally from Wisconsin, another great recreation state, and I'm pretty sure the daily fees to state parks are higher there. But you know the money is going for upkeep and conservation. It's money well spent. And after listening to all that running water for over an hour, I really appreciated the clean bathrooms at the top.

For several years they tried $5 fees at the state parks here in Tennessee. They found that fewer people visited or just skipped paying and since the staffing had been cut back it was hard to enforce. In the end they went back to no fees. But I would imagine Hawaii is different as tourists expect a higher cost for their travels. What hurt here is that locals are the biggest users of our state parks and who wants to pay $5 everytime you want to go walk in the park or picnic with the kids? (There was no break if you were a resident.)

Looking at the plants and trees around the entrance it looks like the fee is worth it to see the beauty of the area. And now that I have viewed the video I know it is money well spent. We have fees to certain parks in Oregon and it always bugs me to pay them.

It's not just Hawaii... in Colorado, there is a spot that's off the highway that my family has go to for 30+ years.... they decided to start charging $8 a car a few years back - and it's just a spot off the highway by the river, no big attraction - lol... At least the price is low - it'd suck to plan a trip to Hawaii and have to drop $30, which I can see that happening if I live another 40 years - Greed kills.

Nice shot and a good question. Seems difficult to enforce. Usually I wouldn't mind a reasonable fee that went to maintaining the park.
