Excellent work, I was out last night trying to capture the moon, and it was stunning to watch, afraid my pictures didn't quite come out as stunning but it was stll fun to try. Nice work~

Fine capture of "the big Moon"! Fine information, too! The astronomers calculations show that the Moon in the pairs youth was much closer to Earth which on the other hand had a much shorter day! But maybe no one would have loved this sight of a much bigger Moon because the tidal forces was enormous that time and very destructive! ;o)

This is spectacular! Thank you so much for sharing this. I saw the moon last night but it was partly cloudy so I didn't even attempt a shot.

Nice comparison. BTW, shouldn't that be 28% brighter?

EXPLANATIONS The moon orbits the earth in an egg shaped not a circular orbit. So sometimes it is closer to us, sometimes further away. What made this particular moon so special is that we had a FULL moon, as the moon was closest to us. Happens every 18-20 yrs. The brightness of an object decreases with the square of the distance from it. So if the moon is 1.14 (14%) closer to us it is 1.14*1.14 = 1.299 times brighter. So 29.9% brighter. I rounded up to 30% because I had run out of decimal points in my graphics program...... (laughing)

I find this extremely interesting. I had no idea the difference in distance was so great, or its effects so significant. I'll pay more attention to this in future since I'm always trying to get a good Moon shot. Thanks!

That is too cool! I'm so impressed with this, you've done a great job of explaining, and showing, what so many media-folks have done a very poor job of doing. I'm even more impressed that you can shoot these images of this quality yourself, that's so cool!

Wow! Imagine How Much Money NASA Would Save On Fuel If They Sent A Rocket To The Moon On March 19th 2011... Instead Of July 7th 2009. So Many Of Your Images Would Make Great Back Grounds For Any Space Renders, Fantastic Images. ;~)
