Description

The Douglas DC-3, which made air travel popular and airline profits possible, is universally recognized as the greatest airplane of its time. Some would argue that it is the greatest of all time. It was so scorchingly hot on this day that the pilot invited families to shelter under it's proud wings as they ate their lunches! imagebam.com

The Gooney Bird on a takeoff roll. Never forget that the C47, the military version of the DC3, went a long way toward winning the war in both the Pacific and European theaters. When not transporting troops and supplies, it was towing gliders or carrying paratroopers behind enemy lines. I had the privilage of riding in one of those (In the cocpit Jump Seat no less) when Aerodyne of Renton Wa. was transporting Smoke Jumpers for a practice jump over Redmond Oregon. Great Shot, and fabulous memories. Thanks

That's a really nice shot! I always wanted to ride in one of these but it never happened. I did get to fly several pretty good simulators though.
