Description
The diesel sat on the track that cold January day awaiting orders from dispatch. They had left Aberdeen Yard and stopped just at the edge of Kinnear Yard waiting for the signal that gave them a green board to leave and clear the track from here to Welland and back. It gave them the complete right of way, no stops, straight run through, turn around and run back again clearing the tracks and making it easier for following trains to come and go.
The engineer sat huddled in the cab, the big diesel behind him burbling away quietly, content in its roll today, the plow crew out making final checks to make sure all was ready, then came the call, the squak box rousing the engineer from slumber, reaching up to pull the lanyard that sounded the horn giving the lets roll signal to the plowman, a plume of black acrid smoke from the diesel, then the building rumbling roar of the diesel a she gathers her petticoats and prepares to polka her way along the tracks, lifti ng her skirts a she gathers speed and shows just how purposeful engine & plow can be....thanks for the peek

No matter what, I would not want to be in front of this beasty when she rolled by. A train engine with one mission, to plow snow, is an impressive view.

Living in a warm country this is totally new to me. Great stuff.
