Description

Brushing up on their skills before the big parade. Captured 5/29/10, at the beautiful Orange County Fair & Event Center in beautiful, but financially troubled, Costa Mesa, California. To be more precise, it was the United Scottish Society's Highland Games & Gathering's Scottish Festival of Celtic Entertainment & Food. Better viewed full size. Five out of a total of 88 shots I took of just the drummers practicing. The noise was deafening around the music makers as they prepared for their appearance. Next time I bring earplugs. Bright as it appears, it was relatively cool that day. Toodles, thankx for clicking on, and for any and all favs and complimentary comments.

I can just imagine the noise these boys were making but you have captured them beautifully and it was well worth the deafening sound.

Can't quite get used to seeing men in skirts. Bet this was a fun event to take pictures at, though. They certainly seem intent on "getting it right".

Great collage here Harry, and I'm glad we never had to wear the skirts back when I played in a marching band ;)

Beautiful collage Harry and I can imagine the noise those snare drums made. Interesting that the #2 shot, was a butt shot in kilts, with a “Bite Me” sign in the background. :>) Dana

a beautiful idea that to perpetuate ancestral traditions... not to abuse it; The Scots are super nice people always told my wife who was in Scotland some time!

I know they were only practising, but baseball caps and kilts! Well!

Excellent behind-the-scenes captures here, Harry; did they march wearing their caps, or did they switch to something more traditional for the real thing? It does look bright, I'd have been forced to wear sunglasses in addition to something with a brim or vizor!

Scottish Pipes and Drums.. The sound is wonderful and the louder the better! And the best? The Military Scots bands.. Really good! These are excellent pictures once more Harry, well done.. Rob

You've got some great shots here, great to see and I am sure they played some great tunes, loud or not.

Well seen and presented. Looks like most of the drummers are wearing ear plugs too.

Just curious Harry...do they have different colored kilts and such for a reason or is that just a different style...or like our every day clothes just something "different" to wear?

I just love listening to drums; now that Dani has joined drumline at the college, I have really taken a liking to it. Nice presentation of these boys.
