Description

I like flowers. I once attempted to be a floral apprentice, but balked at having to work for three months without being paid. I like the vast variety of flowers, and their differing colors, designs, and especially their fragrances. For as much as I like them, I will admit to this being a rather passive affection. Case in point: for all my fondness, I never have learned the proper names for most of them. I've always called this particular kind of flower "pinwheels." They look like they should be made out of paper and serve as some sort of decoration. One day, I'll learn the proper name for this flower, but until then,I'll keep calling them pinwheels. Photographed somewhere on the North Side of Chicago on July 15, 2010.

These look like Phlox. I LOVE that pattern on the flowers. I've never seen this variety before.

You and me both, Corey. I'm a little bit worse than you are though. I usually wind up calling them blue flowers, yellow flowers, red... Beautiful capture of these pinwheels reminding us its Spring.

I happen to like flowers a lot as well, but the only thing I really know about them is that they're those colorful things stuck to the tops of plants, and sometimes insects use them as vending machines. So, in the Chippesque way of naming things I tend to stick with descriptors like: "red flowers" or "yellow flowers" or "those little flowers with frilly things on the ends" etc. This is a gorgeous shot and they are kinda pinwheely. I love the color and the complexity of the shapes, rather like a complex flower colony rather than a single blossom. Really great work, and yeah, I do love their origami-paper texture.

I love your pinwheels and they are very aptly named. I'm hopeless at the botanical names of plants but I don't think it is greatly important unless you were going to make a study of them. A lovely capture.

I don't speak it either.. too much Latin. Raised apples, frequented hort meetings where the pundits love to speak the Latin and gloat. Didn't float my boat. Didn't make me a better farmer either. The only thing I remember is Pinus -pumilio- oblongata because it raised eyebrows.
