Description

The California Lighthouse is located near Arashi Beach, on the NW tip of Aruba. This lighthouse was named for the steamship California, which wrecked nearby on Sept 23, 1891. It was formerly open to the public until a suicide. The actual height is 98 feet (30 meters) but it is built on a hill, so the light is actually an additional 30 feet (9 meters) higher from sea level. It is not painted but left in its natural state. Many rely on the lighthouse my friend for to move. I always find these great lights in the hopes that people bring to them. Beautiful shot my friend. A great capture of a very utilitarian lighthouse, Dana, what with little windows situated at, I assume, each stairwell. There was also the steamer, California, that, in April 1912, was the closest to the ill fated Titanic, and was the first to hear the distress radio signal from the liner, but chose to ignore it.
