Description

A week ago, last Saturday, I was on my way to Treasure House. I was riding my bike as usual. I had just turned a corner and started down the road, where I saw a young girl with a medium-sized dog to my right, on the sidewalk. I had just gotten parallel to them when the dog broke free from the girl. I realized that my motion on the bike was the cause and I wasn't going fast enough to outrun the dog. I stopped to present myself as a non-threat, but the dog still attacked and bit my right leg. this picture was taken the day after the attack. This was the second time that the dog attacked a bike rider wihtout provocation. the owner was told after the first attack that the dog needed to stay in a high-fenced area; if it was to be in the front, it had to wear a muzzle and be secured so it wouldn't get past the property line. the owner had told the officials that the dog was going up to another city (this was a while back) but aggreed to the conditions. As far as I know, the dog was put down yesterday. I know some of you were curious as to what had happened so I thought I'd show you. This was the image that I had the Staff review and they said I could post it although I've posted my own warning thumb

It sounds as if the dog was perhaps not properly cared for I hate to put judgement on the owner since I do not know their story, but I am sorry to hear the dog had to be put to sleep. And I am sorry for you for your injuries and the ordeal you've gone through. I also hate to see animals mistreated, the neighbors behind us have I think 4 or 5 dogs I can never keep up, but it seems as if they about live in their back yard, I hardly ever see anyone out there with them, I walk to the fence and talk to them maybe more than their owners do I do not get why people would have pets like that, they don't have the time to be with and show love to. Take care Mike and thanks for sharing your story.

wonder why all the trouble to post this. yes it looks bad and hope they tested the dog for rabies. My brother got attack on a breach one time by a pack of dogs and he had to bet the shots. he say the shots hurt worst than the dogs bites. his army friends when hunting on the breach and kill all dogs they saw. no one stopped them. Guess the people was happy of the shootings of all those dogs running wild on the breaches.

Fico feliz que esteja bem meu amigo.Uma mordida destes sempre é altamente perigosa. Foi muita irresponsabilidade do dono do cão. Cuide-se

That doesn't look to good mate it had to hurt, unfortunate that the dog had to be put down but if it has done it twice there is a good chance it would do it again. Its just lucky that the little girl hasn't been attacked.. I wouldn't even give a dog a second chance as much as I love dogs.. Get well soon.. Oh and yeah Mikeerson is a nut, just about wet myself when I read his comment. lol :-P

This is awful Mike but that dog would have been put down much sooner if it were me in your place. This could have been a small child. I am sorry for the pain you went through

That is a nasty bite Mike. Stitches? Tetanus shot? Looks like your shin and that had to hurt. All my other thoughts were covered by Mikeerson except take it easy and please take care of yourself. Dana

Similar thing happened to me with an Australian Blue Healer. They are a cattle dog used for herding sheep, etc. Not good idea to have one in the suburbs as they try to herd people as well by nipping at the heels or legs, like this one tried to do with me. Ouch! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_Cattle_Dog

I am glad you told us about what had happened ! Hope you have got over the shock ... In France, dogs are a great subject of controversy and the bigger and supposed more dangerous ones have to be in leash or in an enclosed area ...

I feel your pain, I stuck my hand in between my beagles once when there was a food dispute, got snapped pretty good. Now we just let em go at it, settle it between themselves. Usually sounds worse than it is, but still it's unnerving. I agree though, the owner should be put down, not the dog. Take care !

OWIE... Sorry dear, I have been bit a few times. But I believe it is the owners fault too. Sorry for the doggie too. Once I was bit pretty good and went to doctor they just soaked it in Betadine for a long time. Get some of that for it. It comes generic too. Is this the only way I get to see tattoos? LOL

A most serious situation! I think you did the only thing you could! I am very sorry you had to undergo the pain and suffering this injury had to inflict on you. The person responsible for not following through on the original agreement with the dog has some serious times ahead of her, if she has a conscience! Pretty gruesome pic, Mike, but it sure gets the point accross. People need to be more responsible for their animals! And if they can't or won't, then the penalties need to be strong enough to get their attention and make them think about what impact their reckless/careless decisions can have on the surrounding community!

WOW!!! Hoe you get better soon, but I agree with DrCarl, there aren't bad dogs just bad dog owners... It's not your fault they put it down, so don't think to much about that... I mean here in Puerto Rico we have a bad situation, any Pit Bull has to be put down by law good or bad that really sucks cause they can be very nice dogs, like my friend's Tonka, she's a female Pit bull she's the most adoring thing... Get well soon and take good care of it since it can go very bad if not attended correctly...

Nasty bite, Mike! I think owners of big dogs should need some sort of license to have these! As Carl says, it is the humans who are the problem...Hope it heals well? :o] Have a nice week end, Mike! Rhanagaz

Wow Mike, sorry to hear this happened to you. I got bit by a dog under the same circumstances many years ago when I was a teenager. The dog chased me and then bit my leg. I came off the bike and bit that SOB right back. Sent him howling for his own damn yard. The owner was upset because I bit her dog. Guess what, he never chased me again. Take care friend.
