Description

It was on the return leg of a photographic junket that I saw the flat bed truck pulling into scrap yard with its unusual cargo, a bus. I drove up, pulled into the yard and watched as the truck backed in then parked. It was an interesting find as the bus in question was an old mid to late 1940's Lishman Lines Transit bus, the days of transporting people long gone as her condition showed she had been derelict for some time and left to the fertile minds of taggers and vandals. But none the less she retained of her faded beauty in her classic lines of a 1940's GM coach. I had snapped off about 4 or so pics of this old treasure when a car with 4 young guys pulled into the scrappers yard, got out and walked to the truck where the bus was now being unloaded. Curios I went over and watched the interaction between the scrap dealer, the driver and one of the young men where and exchange of papers & money was transacted. I asked the young guy as the torch man started cutting the front off the bus what was the deal on the buss and he said that they were taking the cab part of the bus back to their dorm where it was going to be fixed up, the dents knocked out, repainted in the original colors and used as a center piece in their frat house as part of the bar they were setting up for frat night booze fests & toga parties. Must admit it was original and had to hand them the credit being creative if nothing else. College days eh, where in that heady atmosphere any floats and is viable, if not sound and sensible at least its fun.............thanks for the peek

Poor little rich boys who will one day become bank managers or stock brokers, who will in 30 years time think about their "wild days" when they were "avant-garde" & "Reveloutionary" or. Just a bunch of kids doing something radical because the rest of the frats are total nerds. Super story ´n´ capture.
