Description
Fremont Street was the home of Las Vegas's first casinos and the place where garish neon lights became fashionable - at least for the gambling crowd. It became known as "Glitter Gulch".
As bigger and more lavish casinos were build on South Las Vegas Blvd, aka the "Strip" downtown Las Vegas lost business and deteriorated badly.
In the early 1990's the idea of turning a five-block stretch of western Fremont into a covered pedestrian mall. And so the Fremont Street Experience was born; it was opened to the public in 1995.
Today the Fremont Street Experience is a major stop for people visiting Las Vegas. Anchored by venerable old casinos like the Golden Nugget and Binion's Gambling Hall the Experience is five blocks of street entertainers, kiosks selling everything from jewelry, to t-shirts to electronic device accesories to drinks of all flavors and alcohol content. Artists will draw you in one of several mediums. There are two permanent stages where musicians and entertainers of various talents ( and lack thereof) perform.
Hourly, the canopy above becomes a dramatic light show set to the music of various artists - the day I was there The Doors and Queen were featured.
It is, of course, a target rich environment for photographers - and people watchers.

Super collage Dennis. Lights galore for the photographers. In all my trips out there, I have never taken the time to go into the Golden Nugget and check out the actual nugget. It is supposed to weigh 875 troy ounces. Dana

A beautiful depiction of this historical and wonderful tourist attraction! I really like the way you've put the images together to come together to form a really lovely work of art that gives the viewer a taste of the Vegas "life". Very lively and colourful!
