Description

Exerpt from Author and documentarian Dawson Welles' documentary "The strange world of human construction in space" The longest-operating ships in human space would have to be the ones covering the Lagrangian-point stations, through Lunar Orbit Stations. These ferries often date back to pre-Rephi Portal days, yet are still operating and even thriving. The "Traject" line of ships are a good example, pre-war ships that are quite striking in appearance, fast and maneuverable, but limited to short runs due to the lack of spin-gravity or large fuel capacity. The engines have enough push/pull to move passengers quickly from Earth to L1, L2, L4 or L5 quickly and efficiently. The rapid pace of exploration and expansion, especially after the Humanity's First Interstellar War, snatched up newer ships as quickly as they became operational, leaving the older workhorses to soldier along in the less exciting but no less needed routes. And really, if the ship works why would anybody want to change? ---------- I got restless and the projects I've been working on just don't seem to want to cooperate, so I decided to take a break and work on something more like my standard fare to kick-start my creativity a bit. The ship was modeled in Bryce, mostly using modular elements I've used plenty of times before. Textures are mostly my own, but there are some presets there as well; mostly on the framework elements. The moon is courtesy of NASA, and was taken by the Galileo probe back in 1992. The starscape was made in Photoshop. Compositing and other post working also done in Photoshop. Thanks for taking a look, and comments/critiques/suggestions are definitely encouraged!

Wonderful picture! Did you add extra texture details to your old modules? I found this ship better than older ones... And nice background choice, this Nasa shot is really good.

Mike, you never cease to just knock my eyes out with your fantastic spacescapes and ships! This could be a scene from a big-budget sci-fi movie. Brilliant and inspiring, my friend! One of these days, I hope to get back to playing with Bryce - you are definitely an inspiration!

I really like the subtle use of color on the main craft along with the second, smaller construct adding a nice sense of scale and depth to the render. Fine work!
