Description

Before the development of the Rephi Portals a growing effort to explore our local solar system was well underway, with a steadily growing settlement already on the moon, several companies had already begun to pursue the growing market for ships and equipment. Vanguard Industries had been contracted for the first Solar Explorer to send a crew to Mars, and the overall success of that mission allowed them to convince their investors to develop a larger ship for longer and more complex missions. SolEx-2 was built for this purpose. It also has the distinction of being the first time the majority of a ship's components were manufactured in space, not on Earth and then launched into orbit. Lunar mining and manufacturing played a major part in Vanguard's growing capabilities. This was the first of several of these vessels, and they served a very long time, continuing after the Portals began to open the solar system to easier exploitation. This was just the first, and its shakedown cruise would loop sunward, orbit Venus for several days before returning to Earth, the expansion of human frontiers was beginning to accelerate. ----------- This was a fun project, I wanted to make something closer to what NASA and the ESA might make, but still far enough in the future to have some differences, too. The ship was modeled in Bryce 6, using mostly preset textures, but a few of these were also edited by me somewhat. Thanks for taking a look, everyone, and have a great weekend. Magnificent, you succeeded well at making the design a balance between current- and futuristic-looking elements !

Ah I've missed your creations! This looks very plausable, but it seems to be missing communications equipment, like dish antennae and the like, unless that cross shaped structure in the rear fills that purpose? I was thinking it was a reactor.

Great picture! The only thing I'd change a little is adding few details on the gray parts of the hull, to make it look bigger.

No one tops you for starship designs that look very plausible as a combination of existing and futuristic design. This looks soooo real! Incredible work as always, Mike!
