Description
I usually have to go to bike shows to photograph these old gals, but these two were parked in the street! Their owners had just come off the ferry from Tasmania. Best viewed zoomed. Thanks to Peter ( lembrechtsart) for the information on the Matchless....which I had incorrectly referred to a Malanca.

BSA's! Made a noise like small arms fire as well, but would run forever! Great shot Andrew! Lucky and good one! Rob

That' s exactly what people should do with these machines: ride' em ! ( my little BSA is used very often too :0) ) The BSA in your great picture looks like a late thirties M22 or M23 Empire Star. The other one is not a Malanca at all though. It is a late-eighties Harris Matchless G80 with an Austrian Rotax engine. Les Harris dug up the old Matchless name to produce modern machines. production ceased in about 1990. Peter

oooh, bikes! mmmm, old bikes(drooling now)! What a lucky discovery and brilliant image. I've been riding for forty years now. Always wanted a 1947 Indian. I met a guy from Tasmania once. They're a little different from most of us, aren't they?

I love the discovery of what has survived even when the owner is a recent purchaser. The metal, glass and rubber have their own history to tell. My look at a BSA as a model is here http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=1353925&user_id=50029&page=60&member&np

I have a pic of my grandfather sitting on a bike very similar to that BSA. Can't remember seeing many with a lime green tank though. Nice combo beautifully captured.
