Description

Thank you for stopping for a closer look. Any and all comments are welcome and appreciated. This image is taken out the window of our sunroom. The Swan River is normally a small shallow river that runs lazily past my back door. Due to the record snowfall this past winter the river is running very very fast and deep. What is normally about 30 feet across is currently about 190 feet wide, and has swallowed a low laying farmers field across from us. While sitting having coffee this morning i watched several gigantic ice flows race past at about 50 mph, several large trees are going by where the high water has ripped them out by their roots. Our house is close to the bank but the river would need to rise another 40 feet before it causes us trouble. Down south of us is where the more serious problems are. Its Friday at last:) Have a great weekend. Jim Yesterday's Image: thumb_2191117.jpg

Good light highlighting the largest ripples of the flood. The water does look full and fast, I am glad you are safe~

We have lowland flooding here as well...2 rivers come together and meet where I live and if ones high the other is too...Will be the 5th straight year that they will go over their banks...Be alert and careful Jim...Things can go from pretty to ugly real quick this time of year...(smiles)....

Lets hope the rains have stopped for you for a while. I saw a show on I think it was the weather channel the other night and they showed the ice you talk about floating this was in North Dakota, and said how they have to blow it up in parts is I believe how they explained it to get the river flowing again I wish I had paid more attention to it now. Keep safe, we had a wind storm blow off a portion of the underside of our roof the other night insurance adjuster was out here yesterday to take measurements and all that fun stuff. Have a nice and hopefully dry weekend, maybe you can get some photos of the ice floating by. Just don't get too close. :)

Awesome capture!! We live right on top of the bank, think we are okay but I sometimes I get the willies to think what could happen. The river is sure flowing fast, going by your boss's home. I think that street has more to worry about than we do. A couple of years back those people had a bad flood,as you may recall. You sure are getting good at photography, good work,Jim. Love and Hugs.

Wow, how cool. This I know, is an event eagerly anticipated through the long winter months (Which, I know are with you still, but change is clearly aborning). I could sit for hours and watch the spectacle unfold and never be bored. I hope your own residence is not threatened by the swelling banks. Say Hi to Glenda for me and thanks for the info on the mural (I suspected it wasn't a corner because the perspective abilities would be beyond most).

I'm glad to hear that you are high enough up not to get caught in this very fast flowing river. Wonderful that your snow is melting all the same. Excellent capture.
