Description

She really shouldn't wear green. People are making too many watermelon jokes. Yeah, I know cleavage is a real cheap way to get people to look. Sorry... I'm trying to learn how to draw. I really am. But my brain is having a hard time comprehending it. So, I cheat. Here's my new "too much work" procedure for trying to do a cartoon character. I know it's a crutch, but otherwise you'd be seeing some Picasso-like image (and not in a good way). I must practice for real!! We start with a Poser rendering. I'm refining the settings to get just what I want. I made the hands a little smaller this time. Better? Then, I printed out the render and did the pencil stuff... On TRACING PAPER. Yes, I'm ashamed of myself. At least I am learning how to draw clothes. Next, the inking phase in Manga Studio. I have so much trouble with it, I might have to try actual, physical ink one of these days. After that, it's a coloring book. Yeah, I can do that! So why the pencil? Well, trying to ink straight over a rendering was... different. It took too much thinking. I thought I would try this. Who knows? Thanks for looking and reading!

For inking you might try using the pencil scan and adjusting the contrast to get most of the "inking" done.

Love how you showed your technique and sketch work, I can't draw a circle so you are way above me I wish I had this talent, and I have tried but its just not there. Nice work and I like the green :)

Whichever way you've chosen, it's worked, hasn't it!

An either case, still an excellent display! Nice seeing the process of Chilli - remember that comic? Chilli & Milly? That's what she reminds me of...

Hmmm... that's how I started, with tracing paper to get the contours. Once the contours were on the drawing paper, I did the filling in with different pencils (different hardnesses, different shapes of the lead). However, one drawing could take a whole day, which is why I quit - no time and much work with it. I never tried the cartoon look, always striving for a real look. "Gack! Choke... cough!(spits it out)Unedible! Unlickable! All paper! Cough!" - T.Rex.

Nice technique if you ask me. Though I though Poser could actually create toon outlines in a rendering. Still very nice job.
