I started out using the 3D program called Imagine on an Amiga in 1990, switched to the PC around 1995, then switch to Lightwave3D around 2005 or so. I own a graphics company that specializes in architectural illustrations and animation. If you are looking for a job doing this kind of stuff, willing to relocate to Memphis, TN, and use Lightwave, drop me a note as I am probably hiring.

did I submit this one, or one from the ground? I don't remember which. Well, I used a Dual P4 2ghz machine for this one (of course it was only using one processor). I have the CUP, but am only using version 2.1.3 I will change when and if they add something I want to use. I set the scene up to render with shadows over the weekend, and when I got back in on a Monday it had only done about 1/20th of the image at 2000x4000. I just have way too many polygons and a lot of them are really small, so that affects the trace time considerably (I think it has something to do with the number of decimals required in the fpu calcs).

more than once I had the same bad experience with trace: launch the friday, came back monday and almost nothing done. This, because there is no progress bar, like in the amiga version, or no extimated time to make the picture, so there is no way to know kow long a render will be. I have requested for the next CUP such a progress bar or an evaluation time function, because it matters to know in advance how long the render will take, 1, 2 or 3 days, but I'm afraid my request has been forgotten...

nice color variation.... particularly in the side aisles.... nice soft shadows under the chairs too.

i used to have those long term prossesing problems until i changed to windows xp, it could handle my 2gb of ddr memory the right way also using 2.4ghz p4 with a gforce3 card, what would take 14 hrs to render could be done in 2

I tested Windows XP and there was no speed increase to be attributed to the OS. The 2.4ghz P4 with 1024mb DDR ram (used around 350mb ram during the render) running WinXP and rendered in 50 seconds what my 933mhz P4 with 512mb ram running Win2000 rendered in 127 seconds. That is a 2.54x speed increase, but that is about right considering the cpu clock increase.
