Hi everybody,
My name is Dana Pommet and my wife’s name is Josephine. I was born in Gloucester, Massachusetts, in 1942, and except for a tour in the Navy, lived there for most of my life. I retired to Delray Beach, Florida in December 2000. We love to travel and photography goes hand and hand with that. I went digital about 5 years ago and started posting November 22, 2008. I have met so many wonderful people on RR and that makes this whole process so much more interesting than just posting photos. Thanks for all the comments and keep them coming.
Update  January 2012: After hiding and denying my mild Dyslexia, for most of my professional life, and now fighting with its advancement – I want to thank you all for putting up with my poor typing skills and spelling problems. I know that my spell checker hates me and I now depend completely on audio books rather then actually reading printed books.  Life marches on!  ÂÂ

this is wonderful to see how they eat. i not sure also why they eat things whole. my guess is they do not do this at all. maybe they can not tear the fish but this is how nature made them to eat? not sure about this; i no scientist

It's amazing how many animals can't actually chew or break food apart. Crocodilians (including alligators) can only lock their jaws, they can't chew, so they must resort to "death spirals" in order to tear their food up. Many birds also lack chewing/tearing abilities, and so they just swallow, wait, and go around pretending that this isn't an evolutionary holdover from their reptilian ancestors. At any rate, it's fascinating to watch them eat, and I love the elegance you capture here. Really nice work!

Great one!

Wonderful shots Dana, that meal should do him for a while. These birds have large gizzards which will grind up the fish as it goes through and some of the pulp can then be fed to their young.
