Description
"The Story of Fetch"
They eyed each other patiently. The huge creature turning it's head to keep Gart centered. We kept moving in a wide circle as the creature kept turning sideways, with it's massive spiked tail at the ready. Gart saw his chance and heaved his spear with a growl. We stared in shock as the creature just whipped it's head down then caught the spear shaft as it passed and snapped it effortlessly. Then, to our amazement, this beast just starting doing something similar to wiggling and I could have sworn if such a monster could grin, this one was.
Gulping, Krod took his turn and maneuvered to his right. In his monosyllabic way, grunted boastfully for us to watch him kill the creature. He wound up and threw with all his strength. The spear went high and this multi-tonned behemoth gracefully lifted up off his front legs and caught the spear, then came down with thunderous "Boom" that knocked us off our feet. He walked forward and dropped the spear, almost like an offering, then did that odd wiggle. Krod looked at us bewildered. Was this creature possessed by an evil spirit? Spears were hard to come by, but Krod backed up, afraid to retrieve it.
Now spearless, Gart looked at me, then shook his head and took off running. Krod, seeing this, seemed to understand the wisdom in Gart's reasoning and took off running too. Then, as I readied my spear to take my turn, The monster raised it's head and seeing my companions running away, just took off and came charging right at me. Now, with my superior frontal lobe, I had been chosen the leader of our little hunting party and using all my skills and primitive powers of deduction, I did what any good Neanderthal would do. I turned and ran as fast as I could before the mighty creature got up to speed. I caught up to my companions and we ran nearly a mile, but the beast was still catching up and shaking the earth with each stride. With a look back, I knew we'd be plowed under in less than a min...., uh, less then the distance that a rock can be thrown.
In a rather heroic move, if I do say so myself, I skidded in the dirt, turned to my left and threw my spear off into the brush with all I had. I looked back and the beast turned it's head to follow the spear. Then, turning in a sharp, yet incredibly graceful way, it took chase after the spear. We ran on as fast and far as we could, then finally came to a stop after we knew we had finally ditched the creature. Catching our breath, we heard thumping. Looking at one another with fear, our heads turned in unison just as the trees burst aside and were snapped by the grinning charging dinosaur, my spear firmly in it's mouth. Thus, the game of Fetch The Stick, or just Fetch, was invented.
