Description
Submitted for your consideration: another in my "Warrior women" series, a portrait of an Elven archer firing at long range. The inspiration for this was a work by Gerald Brom.
One of my pet peeves is the portrayal of fantasy female archers with anorexic arms. An experienced archer knows that a serious bow draws serious weight. Modern hunting bows, for example, draw 60 pounds or more. The legendary English longbows drew far more than that. Even the archaic bow pictured here probably drew at least 50 pounds. You would have trouble stringing a bow like that with little pencil-thin arms, never mind drawing it repeatedly. Historically, archers were renowned for their strength. Accordingly, I portray this Elven lass with the muscles to draw her bow properly.
Please take a moment to view this at full size. As always, I welcome your critiques and comments.

Really beautiful stance against the redsky, exquisite picture. And these muscles! A long bow's drawing weight coĂșld be up tp 200 pound, according to Wikipedia.

First of all, very lovely render! Nice motion blurring on the draw string and released arrow! Your right, you make a very valid and realistic point about archers, especially in fantasy art / renders. Its right up there with my pet peeve of scantily clad fantasy armor aka the metal bikinis. And sometimes larger than realistic usable fantasy weapons. Its just more convenient and aesthetically pleasing (to some) to have the lith and sexy body shape rather than body builder muscular tones. And all too often, alot of fantasy armor and clothing (that which isn't already skimpy) don't always have much included body morphs. It doesn't help either that the Morphs++ Amazon build doesn't have any muscle definition at all... Thats one of the reasons I love the She-Freak lineup. Sadly, there just isn't enough clothing available that includes SF4 morphs. In the end, render what makes you happy. Otherwise, wheres the fun in this hobby right? :)

This is a wonderful image, a fantastic scene of movement, marvelous colors and pose, loved the little tattoo on her belly, superb detail!

You address an important point in realism. I often add muscle morphs to the arms of my females, though not to the extent you have done here. And I agree with Spacer that the sizes of most weapons is grossly ridiculous.. I often scale down to 90 and even 80% to get anywhere even close. If you want more realistic armour sets go to DAZ and also there is some nice leather outfits, with, GASP, pants in the Wildenlander series. This girl looks like what we should expect of a muscular female and she looks like many of the gym rats at my fitness center. The blur motion is very well done.

I missed this one because I've been out of town - glad I had the chance to catch up! Yes, you are correct on every count - although Elvish people are supposed to be much stronger than humans LOL! I also have to downsize almost every weapon in my runtime to realistic proportions before I can use them. And trying to find fantasy armor that actually looks practical too is an almost impossible challenge. This is a wonderful image - and I love details such as the vibrating bowstring too. Nice work!

fantastic character great morphs and detail

great colours and a nice action shot, pun intended, couldn't agree more about the arms, the lass has the right physique for this and, as you say, a English longbow was a serious weapon
