Description

I worked so hard trying to get this shot right, but no matter where I went, there was other furniture in the way. I tried wide angle, straight shot, zoom, no zoom, whatever. If I used the flash I got glare on the glass, if I do not use the flash the image came back grainy. So, here we are, I did the best post work I could in Photoshop without getting ridiculously anal retentive and taking a week to do the post work. I almost sent this one to the cutting room floor, because I did not like the glare, it detracts from it, but I must live with it in order to show you the details these people include in their carvings.

Sometimes it's worth it to take the time to be anal. This looks like a beautiful sculpture. The first thing you should have done in Photoshop is CROP the image tightly and get rid of all the extraneous gobblygook that detracts from the image itself. You can sometimes get rid of some of the glare by using a polarizing filter on the front of your lens when you are taking the pic. This filter rotates to add more or less polarization. It will darken skies, take away reflections in glass and water and enrich colors in your photo. Being totally anal, then I would probably have selected the entire subject (the sculpture} in PS, inverted the selection and added a black background...but cropping would be a good beginning.

That is a spectacular carving. Good job on the photo too. Is that a chocolate chip cookie on the floor?

I agree in some ways with jophoto.. but maybe in this case of really trying to get a shot that just seemed to not work, perhaps giving us more points of interest such as what we are seeing in the photo, I believe it is eagles, and birds, carved in wood. But maybe some details of the artist or the name of the sculpture. But all in all I applaud your effort.
