Description

Taken in an exhibition in Kyrenia castle, North Cyprus. This unbelievably complex ship reconstruction mesmerised me, it dates back to 300 BC. Believed to be the oldest ship ever found. There were many artifacts found on board too. This included amphoras containing wine and olive oil. It may look like an abstract shot, but the details are prove of the skill of the original construction and the modern reconstruction I think.

Do you mean 3000 BC or 300 BC? There are lots from 300 BC, but not from 3000 BC. The design here shows the designers really knew their ship building and witnesses for a high degree of social organization and manufacturing skill. The photo is great, revealing design details while at the same time catering to the aesthetic (intersecting parallel lines). Keep up the good work! :-)

This is from 300 BC not 3000 BC! But its a great shot, and was actually discovered by a sponge diver in 1967. 9000 perfectly preserved almonds were found on board and have been carbon-dated to 288 BC, +/- 62 years!

They certainly went to a lot of trouble to make these ships and it is amazing that it has lasted this long.
