Description

Bryce7Pro/DazStudio/Photoshop/Photoscape3.5 As a kid living in England,I can remember a family trip taken to see the HMS Victory in drydock. It was a real thrill to actually stand on the deck of one of the most famous ships in British history, imagining what it would have been like to sail on her in the day.Although now a floating museum, there was still the feeling that she could once again ride the seas to battle foes. The model is the HMS Victory from Daz3D(posed in DazStudio). The rough sea is a large terrain(custom) with the "Rolling Breakers" ProMaterial by David Brinnen applied...I modified the mat to reflect more of a deep sea feel instead of a shallow one.The sea spray is a modified cloud volumetric applied to skewed spheres. The sky, light and atmo are all custom...the clouds were created in the CloudLab,the sky used as IBL(I disabled the sun and cast shadows before selecting "use sky as IBL",then added the sun back in,which cut the render time down by about two thirds!).Rendered in Superfine setting. In Photoshop I slightly tweaked the contrast, and added the signature. In Photoscape Iadded the frame and border, and then back into Photoshop for the title and resizing. Thanks for taking the time to view, and for any comments you wish to leave!

This is outstanding! I keep opening my ships - as I have a scene in mind, but close them back because I'm struggling to know where to begin in depicting what I see in my minds eye! This is simply wonderful!

Just one crit: For the weather you are portraying, huge swells, etc., your sail configuration is incorrect. The waves denote large stormy seas, with winds that would be gale force to almost hurricane strength. The sails you have set, would be a configuration for moderate to barely no winds at all. Having all sails set, as here with outboard stun'sails, was to try to catch any or all light winds, so as not to become becalmed... In a storm situation as you have shown here, only the bare minimum of sails would be set, usually one sail per mast, usually the main courses, or largest middle sails; sometimes a t'gan's'l or royal; one gibsail on the bowsprit forward; and the spanker on the mizzenmast aft, just to maintain steerageway. Any more sails set, risked "tearing the sticks out of her", i.e., dismasting. Any captain with enough years of experience to command a three decker would know this.... but that is just being accurate. This IS a nice dramatic view. Good job.

Wow, this looks like an old painting with this well-chosen frame! Great job on the waves and foam, and thanks a lot for explaining what you've done - escpecially the hint regarding lighting/reducing render time! Fantastic job.
