Description
Hi folks I'm back for a couple of weeks and then off again!!
This is a picture of the work in progress of the Memorial. It is in his homeland in the Black hills of Dakota where the white man showed treachery by reneging on more than one treaty.
The sculpture in the foreground is 1/34th size of the real one when completed which may take a 100 years or more to finish. It is larger than the pyramids and is 563 ft high and 641 ft in the round. It was started in 1948 by Korczak Ziolkowski who suddenly died in 1982, his wife and large family then decided to carry on the work with all of them deeply involved.
This was one of the highlights of my holiday (vacation).

Why didn't Bill and Melinda donate to this? It could be completed a lot sooner with money and modern technology. sigh Guess we can always dream. Great shot my friend.

great shot Jeff. I didn't realise you had been to the States, looks and sounds like you had a great time as did we in Sicily, got through about 650 pictures in a week

Ah, so this will be it! I'm sure it will become an impressive 'statue'. At first I thought the horse was looking very angry, but in full-size I saw it was just a lock of hair :) I hope they hurry up! I'd like to see it.
