Description

Ficus Benghalensis Moracaes, captured 5/8/11, at the Fullerton Arboretum, situated on the beautiful campus of California State University Fullerton in beautiful Fullerton, California. Worth a ZOOM. The Banyan forms aerial roots from branches to the bottom. This particular variety is native to India and Pakistan, and is the National Tree of India. This was my second visit to the Arboretum, the first being in 2006, and found that since then, several of the esoteric tree species had disappeared, with most of the area in need of better maintenance. Avtio, thankx for clicking on, and for any and all favs and complimentary comments.

Amazing specimens Harry and great photographs/collage. These root systems always seem to look like nature has gone wrong. Dana

It really is an amazing tree Harry, and so sad to hear that many of the more exotic species are vanishing

Most unusual the way these grow. Several varieties of Ficus do this. Some grow here in Florida. One variety (Strangler Fig), begins its' growth high in a Palm tree and eventually grows down and around its' victim, killing it. They are a fascinating species.

Wonderful captures of this interesting tree and it is amazing how it survives isn't it. The roots look like a hair do in the second and third captures.

I've never seen anything like this. What amazing and scary Ents these would make. To see them up and walking might put me right off trees. Excellent captures. Sorry to hear the Arboretum not getting the proper care. I hope the situation improves.
