Description

I read an article about a month ago that said the U.S. Government was considering allowing women to collect combat pay. Even though we have an all woman unit serving in either Iraq or Afganistan--I forget which--under combat conditions. I also saw an article with pictures on that unit prior to seeing that article. I was astounded that they were not being given combat pay. Many of the Transportation companies have women serving with them. They often come under fire, risk getting blown up by roadside bombs, etc., in the performance of their duties. How come they are not getting combat pay? It's not just unfair; it's outrageous! Women do serve in combat conditions and are being killed and wounded. Why do men get extra pay for this, but women serving under similar conditions don't? As a father of a grown daughter, I have to plead mixed feelings when it comes to sending women into combat situations. It's bad enough to know your sons might get killed or come home mained for life. The idea that one's daughter could suffer the same fate, leaves me feeling queasy. Nevertheless, I strongly believe in the principle of equal pay for men and woman for the same work. This picture represents a transportation unit on the move. There was also supposed to be bunches of rubble all over the streets, but I kept running out of memory. Sigh. I'd done a lot of individual work on the female soldiers, so I decided to post their portraits as well. Traveling from left to right across the render, you have the corresponding portrait with its corresponding figure. I also added their names and ranks to give a sense that there really are women serving in combat situations out there. Thanks for looking! Jeremy CREDITS: Vue6 Pro Studio, Poser6, PostShopPro5. Nice picture. For some reason I had assumed you got combat pay if you were deployed to a combat zone (like the entire country of Afghanistan). But what do I know.

Hey Jeremy, the last i knew they DO get combat pay. They get a "Combat" patch. They get everything the guys do.....EXCEPT...they are NOT allowed in "Combat UNITS" ie...Infantry, Special Forces, Armor.... Now that doesnt mean they dont see combat. They just arennt allowed in those units. theree is a TON of debate on wether or not they should be in those units do to the very nature of them. And both sides make alot of sense. I have seen women who would do well in the Infantry... adn some who i wonder how they got IN the Army in the first place. Great picture! Im waiting to get a photo of a all woman flight crew going to a POI. Its already happened in the Army, BUT i dont think its happened in our unit only because the short supply of pilots, medic and crew chiefs...both male and female...lol...

Do you have the source for the article? I was in the service and somehow really doubt that there is a different pay structure for women. It can only be some classification issue, actual combat verses being in a combat area. But here is something to think about when we are talking about equality. Now I know you may be "old-school" and think that chivarly is still alive and women should not be in combat, but the fact of the matter is if males and females are equal then why cant the women also share the burden of national security to the point of combat and death and being wounded like any man? To think otherwise is what some radical feminist may believe that males are less equal than females and are EXPENDIBLE. Thus males can go to war and die or suffer the horrors of war..or come back without limbs. Both men and women die in wars but the burden has always been on men. When we see a fair and equivalent amount of female and male body bags sacrificed in war then we will have equality... Nice render, interesting topic.

Nice render! and Fochs's is correct. I did five years in the marines, did 2 deployments and got out in 09. theres been a miscommunication somewhere down the pipeline. There are very specific rules regarding combat pay that state nothing about the sex of the individual. if a female is in a convoy that gets hit and the other 3 males in the humvee get combat pay, she will too. and dont quote me on this because its been a while but theres also something called eminent danger pay, which is close to combat pay but different, when i was in iraq i was on base most of the time and we got mortared a lot, but mortars are indirect fire so i got eminent danger pay for every month that we got mortared, but i was never in direct combat i.e. firing my weapon at a specific target that is specifically firing at me so i never got combat pay. Most of the women deployed are in situations like that, where, yes theyre in a war zone, but they are restricted to safer places like bases and never even hear a shot fired. There is a difference between a war zone and a combat zone, a war zone covers an entire region, like afghanistan, whereas a combat zone covers specific points inside that like hostile villages and cities. So to sum things up, i would just like to assure you that if a women is put in a situation where she "rates" combat pay she will get it.
