Description

We visited Panama in 2002 and took a tour out to Portobelo, a port city in Col³n Province, Panama. Portobelo has a deep natural harbor and had a large fort, built to protect the beautiful bay, city and itâs silver mining operation. The only reference that I could find, for when it was built, was that it existed in 1668 when Captain Henry Morgan captured the city, with a fleet of privateers and 450 men. Next to the fort, is a large white church, Iglesia de San Felipe, which was still in use. it dates from 1814. Itâs famous as the home of the life-sized effigy of the Nazareno of Portobelo, depicting a black Christ carrying the cross. Today, Portobelo is a sleepy city with a population of fewer than 3,000. Taken with my old Pentax and later scanned. Thanks for stopping by my gallery, taking a look and for all your previous favs and comments. They are very much appreciated. Dana

A lovely shot Dana but one small criticism - the horizon is not quite level! Hope you don't mind me being picky.

Nice one Dana! It reminds me of visiting Signal Hill overlooking the entrance into St. John's, Newfoundland. I was on my way to Cape Spear, the most easterly point in North America.
