Description

you can still find treasures in secluded corners... "APARTMENTS" over the door. Russian modern at its best in Rostov-na-Donu, South Russia. I tend to think that time not only destroys but also...

I do agree with you. Much has been lost to thoughtless attention.

... and it enhances! - correct Nikolay, there is so much to see here - love the cheeky big facial grin on top of the column and above that - the kneeling little girl holding her dress, juxtapose plus all those textures and hues are so striking and totally interesting ... BB

You never miss. This is classic. The worn door, the crackling paint, the chipped brick and stone. I think of how many people have come and gone through this portal...most never paying attention to the scene you've presented to us here.

What a gorgeous old man. Okay, some buildings are gorgeous old women, but there's something strong and rugged about this one, and therefore--in the mind of Chip--male. I love that column, topped with a mysterious, smiling face...as if that particular architectural creature knows something the rest of us don't. And that door! WOW! What can I say about that?! I'm reminded of various doors I saw in Prague (similar two-panel style) with cryptic declarations over the top...well, cryptic for anyone not versed in the language. Most of the declarations were mundane: things defining little markets, apartments, luggage sales, shoe repair and stuff like that. I really love the colors in this, the textures, the signs of age, and more importantly, survival. This is graceful and wholly engaging! (I also love the way that this shot is in color, but it has the emotionally engaging impact of black and white!)
