Description

...some of the 1130 tons of steel that makes up the 75 year old, 976-foot span over Deception Pass on the north end of Whidbey Island (Washington). ...this is a bit of a heartstopping bridge. It has two narrow (11-foot wide) lanes and a 3-foot wide pedestrian lane on each side. If you want to walk out on the bridge you can...but peering over the rail 180 feet down to the water with cars and trucks whizzing by your backside 1-2 feet away is quite an experience...!!! ...I didn't take many pictures from out on the bridge...couldn't hold my breath that long:-) Bill "Outdoor Art Gallery" thumb_2210682.jpg

Great shot!! I know that bridge--and that heartstopping feeling too! The first time I saw it was after a snowstorm, and traffic was quite slow, so I didn't have any issues walking all the way across it. But the next time I was quite surprised that my knees turned to rubber trying to get out onto it...a feeling that continues now every time. It's a fantastic bridge from any angle, though!

what a construction! good capture ! hope to see something like this one day too. hope there where you your where standing it was save, looks quite dangerous here and you don't have to be afraid of heights. Can imagine a straighten out version, using as a guide some of the vertical and horizontal struts, giving a geometric view, could be quite impressive too. the misty and little overexposed, helps to separate the construction from the background
