Description

This is the Yaquina Head Lighthouse near Newport, Oregon. We didn't get to tour this one, which is a shame. I hear it has a marble floor. It will give us something to look forward to on our next trip to the Oregon Coast! :) A couple of weeks ago Chip posted a photograph of a lighthouse in Evanston, Illinois, which he used to see when he visited his friend LaTonya in that town, and called it Tara's Lighthouse. Both lighthouses were built in 1873, and are quite similar in their styling. At the time, I promised Chip a photo of the one out here. So this is for Chip and his friend LaTonya (who I have yet to meet but like already)! LaTonya now lives about 100 miles from this lighthouse. It's a fun coincidence! The Yaquina Head Light is still active.

I have an original painting of a lighthouse very similar to this on the Labrador coast, about 20 km from where we lived. Gorgeous photograph, and thanks for the warm memories (of a very cold place...)

I think I photographed this lighthouse, but from another bluff so it was a small part of the image. I love the soft lighting and the flowers in front. Very beautiful...

I recall this being a gray day...you've done a remarkable job coaxing the light in this image...and the overall composition and softness really makes this photo extraordinary. Marble floor...ok, when are we going back?

With this, you have also captured my favorite lighthouse, next to Cape Spear, Newfoundland, but only because I have a long connection with the Cape Spear light. I do, however, have stationery with Yaquina Head printed on it. I use it only for very special letters, letters that I do not write very often. I must bring that paper out and use it, Newport has been a favorite place for me for many years.
