Ladies and gentlemen ... Billy Preston! If the song isn't in your head already, Click Here! Steam locomotive on display at the Tillamook Air Museum. I bet if they played that song loud enough in that hangar, the old engine would start to chuff along to the beat!

Totally awesome capture Tara and the song is in my head. There was a man here when I first got here whose name was Willy, he thought thats what the song said, Willy go round in circles...LOL!!! As for this image, my grandfather would have loved it, he was a train man all the way, would drive hundreds of miles just to see an old locomotive. I don't know if its still there or not but Wenatchee had an old engine in a small park that he would visit often. It sounds like you and Bill are having a wonderful time, I briefly glanced at your pics, hope to get back son to commenting, miss you and all my friends here!!

Perfect musical selection...those wheels probably haven't gone in circles in for a few years:) Wish I had taken this shot... All sorts of interesting detail in your photo. And I found the story of how the engine got to the air museum in March 2011 and what its future will be when it gets back in action later this year. Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad.

Well done! I like these shots when the artist pushes in close to the subject and shows just a few details. These driver wheels and mechanisms that made them move captures the essence of the locomotive. And the toning is superb.

Billy who? (just kidding!) SUper composition and toning - sepia tones are most appropriate for an almost forgotten technology. (Btw, part 2 is brewing as I type - might take a while...)

Beautiful capture showing the simplicity of individual items but the complexity of it all. Nice how the wheels look oval. Also appreciate the sepia tones. I've always been amazed and fascinated by the complexity of these machines and the engineering skills of the designers. A good photo of a complex subject!

Girrl you do get around! In the mid-sixties I went to school during the day and worked eight hours at night. When we got off work at midnight some of us would often go to a small club nearby. One night the MC had a surprise for us. "Ladies and gentlemen, Billy Preston!" He brought down the house. We didn't go home until six a.m. Thanks for the memories. BTW - This wouldn't be THE Soul Train?

I wonder if this is an early version of the Number 8? I can't tell, but you know the Number 8 train has a very long history and so it's not difficult to imagine (once, a long time before yesterday) that it was a steam locomotive of an older sort that is employed today, and maybe hauling boxcars full of sheep and pigs and emblazoned with advertisements on the sides of some of the cars, calling for the purchase of such miracle products as "Lubomir's Miracle Tooth Powder" or something of extreme importance in Agara. One never knows! I love the color and the light in this; that nice sepia wash even if it isn't sepia. It's what I call antique light; that amber-ish, slightly dusty light that gives an impression of age that's never far off from the actual age of whatever wears that light. It's funny too, because when I saw this, I started thinking of the Basil Polidorius score to Conan the Barbarian, particularly a selection called "The Riddle of Steel." That sometimes happens whenever I see big, massive loads of metal, of steel being all steely and slightly cold to the touch, or warm, if it sat in sunlight. And with that music in mind, I wonder what adventures this locomotive might have seen. This photo is that evocative, even without musical accompaniment, and that's what makes it so darn good!
