Hi, I'm Marilyn. Â I've been posting here on RR for a few years now and thought it was time to update my profile. Â It's been wonderful learning so much from the amazingly talented people here. Â I've had the chance to meet many in person and some have become great and good friends. Â Starting with a Kodak Brownie camera when I was about 7 or 8, moving up to Instamatics, Polaroids, then the Pentax K1000 that really got me on the way, I've been looking at the world thru a lens for a long time. Â Got the bug honestly; my dad was a photographer and gave me the gene!! Â Digital changed the world and I jumped in with both feet. Â You would've gone thru 100's of rolls of film in one day the way we can shoot and delete all day long. Â Progess...it can be awesome sometimes.
At any rate, RR rocks, the talent is over the top and I'm just gonna keep on shooting!!
Thanks for looking and keep those cameras rollin'!!
peace.....marilyn

Here in Chicago, some politically-correct focus group has decided that speed bumps must now and forever-more be called speed humps...quite possibly because "bump" is too offensive a word--quite possibly because the first consonant sound is "too hard" or something like that. Everyone calls them speed bumps anyway...and thankfully life itself (with speed bumps) isn't subject to politically-correct focus groups that really get into the whole "touchy feely" thing. This has nothing to do with what you just wrote, but that's what popped to mind after I read (and enjoyed!) your words. I like the rhythm and cadence, and for some reason, I get the feeling that you wrote from the slight perspective of encountering speed bumps (humps?) on a bicycle. I think it's the cadence of your words; they're a bit more casual and not so rushed, so it's definitely not really an automotive thing for me. At any rate, bumps or humps, bikes or cars aside, this is great! I love the image too. And for some reason (as well) my mind went into "Onion-world" mode and I saw this image as a representation of "the Middle Road." That's pretty cool!

it use to be I'd try to fly over the speed bumps in my life, but now I just sorta creep over them, listening carefully to what is happening

Now days I'm pretty much off the road. When I do venture out I am reminded of the words of an old RC Cola commercial, "It's knowing where to take the turns and not how fast you go." A wonderful poem, your words speak truth. The image works very well.

Life is like a speed bump and your words tell it like it is. Nicely written. The photo matches the words too. Dana
