Description

On May 24th we had to surrender our sweet 14 year old Border Collie x Sheltie mix, Starling, allowing her to cross the Rainbow bridge into Summer. In the weeks after I had been slipping into a very deep, dark depression. I have had dogs all my life (at least since I was three), and I cannot imagine my life without a canine companion to keep me company. Even my Mom was feeling the loss of Star and we decided to start looking for another dog to help ease the ache in our hearts and the emptiness in our home. We went to San Jose Animal Center twice, after seeing dogs we thought would fit in our home on their website. Unfortunately, the first few we looked at were no go's. They have height and weight restrictions were we live on pets. So, we had to keep looking. The next week, I found three potential dogs that would have fit perfectly into the size and weight requirements of the park we live in. Unfortunately, two had already been adopted and it looked like the third was going to be soon. Fortunately, we were able to meet with this feisty 4-5 month old little Cocker Spaniel mix and he made a fit. Needless to say, on June 9th, a little brown spotted, black ball of fuzz came to live with us. It's now just a hair over a week later and we finally THINK we've got a name for him. I am very pleased to introduce to you, Loki! Named for the Norse God of Chaos, Mischief and general Mayhem. Don't let those sweet eyes and that innocent routine fool you, he lives up to the name very well! But he's a sweet thing (when he wants to be) and other times a right holy terror! We're so glad Loki's now a part of our family....and we wanted to make sure everyone got to meet him! Like the toy says...."Here Comes TROUBLE!" And you better believe he's that! He is so adorable, but that flash of green in his eyes hints at the mischievous lil devil that he can be. Great shot, love. I know letting Starling go was near to impossible, and the hurt from that will never completely fade, but I can hear it in your voice how much happier you are having Loki as part of your life now. Can't wait to meet him for real next month.

First of all Stacey let me say how truly sorry I am for your loss. Now let me say how thrilled I am to see you gave little Loki here a good home where he can be loved. What an adorable little guy, and I'm sure he is going to be a blessing to everyone in your family.

He is very adorable, Stacey I see that flash of green in his eye as well. It appears that he is just sizing us up, learning our weak spots, planning his moves.....

Congrats on your new friend. I have the same feeling for cats and so when my beloved Pingo passed on some 5 years ago it was a heavy 3 months until I was able to fill the void of emptiness. The way I see it, Starling's time had come and so he moved on so that Loki would have a place. It is all as it should be. Nature takes care of her own.

I'm sure that Star is very proud of you to give another little one a new good home! You did the right thing to take him with you, though I can't understand how there could be weight and size restrictions?!?! We don't have such stuff here, but well, every country is different. Give Loki a big hug from me and he'll surely make you happy!!!!!!!! ~Sassy~

I bet Starling is looking on, approving this mightily. She would not want you to be in such a deep dark place, she would want you to bring a pup into your home who really needed a forever home and a loving family. That emptiness a beloved companion leaves never really fills, but it does ease, it does ache less over time. It always surprises me that even though I walk around with a gaping wound in my heart, there is always room for one more pup to love. For you, Loki seems perfect! He's full of life, full of mischief, and full of joy. Even just laying there with that glint in his eye, he simply oozes exhuberance! Welcome to Rendo, sweet Loki, tell Momma to take lots of pictures to post so we can watch you grow!
