Big hole! 2011-06-15, 8:15
As I promised yesterday, here comes the photo taken along the east side of the Triangle shopping center. It was taken from a rickety stairway from a second storey exit. I had to lean over its side to get the whole hole. It was a bit unnerving, considering how far down it was to the ground!
The hole is, from what I can judge by the workers near the back entrance in the center of the wall, about 8 meters/30 feet deep. The black area in the wall is the back entrance to the existing part of the shopping center.
The machine in the corner is drilling holes both into the concrete wall and the ground. It causes quite a racket and disturbs the school where I work (located to the right of the arm of the big orange and blue crane arm, across the street from the construction site). The noise travels through the bedrock. Two days earlier there were 8 large digging machines in the area of this photograph – quite crowded! No collisions, though.
A few days ago, there were no reinforcing irons on the ground to the right. Between the irons there are 4 large concrete bases which looked like gigantic sarcophagi. It seems this area will be supporting something very heavy.
NCC stands for Nordic Construction Company, one of Scandinavia’s largest.
The tunnel roofing area I’ve posted several panoramas of is located some 20 meters/75 feet to the left of this photo.
And, yes, there’s a McDonald in the shopping center! They’re everywhere in the world today!

I always marvel at the bracing for the big cranes. I can imagine the children at the school where you work are getting a real lesson out of all of this. I am sure you've mentioned it in the past, but are you teaching? If so, what do you teach?
