Brad Pitt and I share the exact same birthday (month, day, year) outside of that, our stories diverge considerably. Mr. Pitt went on to become an internationally famous superstar, while I have led the much more interesting life of the starving artist. I come from a long line of storytellers (whose gift for gab stretches back through the mists of time to our native Ireland) and professional malcontents who were seemingly born to create something in the arts, be it music, writing, sculpture, painting, or photography. I started writing at age 12 with a screenplay with my cousin Ryan about a planet where everyone looked like Elton John entitled "Don't I Know You?" More screenplays followed, several of which received epic Super-8 production with budgets that sometimes ran up to $10. A few even had sound!  More writing followed: songs, poems, short stories, numerous unfinished novels, etc.. Somewhere in there was an attempt at being a rock star...
Still living at home, at age 22, my father dropped an elderly Nikromatt 35-mm film camera into my lap, in the hopes that I would "make a go of it" as a photojournalist. That didn't happen, but I did develop an abiding love of photography that along with writing and archival work have been among the chief passions of my life. When it comes to my photography, I try to be as creative as possible while at the same time striving for a documentary/archival quality. The only set rules I adhere to, when it comes to making pictures are: 1.) Try not to make the picture blurry, and 2.) Don't drop the camera.

Wowser! What a great reflection shot! The palm trees are nice, but to be expected. What I REALLY love are the buildings down the side of the hood. Fab-ooo!

MARVELOUS POV

Based on the current direction of my thoughts, I can envision this as the opening shot of the kind of alien visitation movie I'd love to see: in which case I'll have to write the story/screenplay. It wouldn't be an alien invasion movie...those are so overdone...heck, they were overdone one century ago! Anyway, I can see this as the setup for a pivotal scene in the beginning of the movie...the central human characters are in a car, minding their own business and the camera is following the car from just slightly above. And slowly, and with ominous grace, the reflection of the belly of the whompin' big alien spacecraft is picked up by the roof of the car as the engine goes dead and you hear a low, wobbling, throbbing sound...that typical sci-fi movie sound (ill tuned air conditioners) tweaked to sound like antigrav engines, keeping a big (2 mile wide) spacecraft in impressive hover-mode over...Florida. Such a spacecraft would--undoubtedly--be powered by some super-fuel derived from an element common in many science fictional universes: absurdium. Okay, now that I've gotten that out of the way, I have to say that I love this shot. It's what isn't really seen that draws my attention; There is a median in that street with palm trees blocking the view of what's on the other side of the street. Palm trees. Check. Comcast van. Check. What the heck are those things with the Spanish Columns...no check. WOW! Based on what everyone says of Florida, one wouldn't really expect buildings...just palm trees, alligators, and NASA. And to top it all off, you've got this wonderful off-kilter car shot thing going. NOTHING in this picture is as it should be, and yet everything in this picture is exactly as it should be. That's the thing about travel, even if it's within the same country. Things change, but it's the things that stay the same (ya gotta have buildings after all...just to keep things out of the rain!) that really show how different everything is and knock your expectations out of whack. I like this shot a lot.
