Description

30th of May Rex our belgian Shepherd dog mix got 14 years old. Even I wished he could stay longer with us I am afraid he will not have much time left. Rex was the perfect protector of the house (and this without training) and our 3500m2 yard where he and our other 6 dogs(already gone to dogheaven)roamed around freely (none of them where ever chained). Nowadays it is hard for him to get up and when he is walking slowly around it is not more very stable. Rex protected my kids on every step when grandma took them out for a stroll, no baby kidnapping here. Because of his size, the long hair of blackness, nobody tried even to get close. The most of the Greeks are afraid of dogs, as many are uncontrolled around on the streets chasing cars and motorcycles. Thank you Rex, for the good time you gave us. Now I soothe his hip joints pain with tablets and painkillers.

14 is a good, long age for a large dog, and it sounds like Rex has been a gem. I hope the rest of his time with you is good for you both. This is a wonderful image! I love the close-in shot, and the crop and composition are great. :D Really nicely done!

14 is a good old age for a Belgian. My parents used to raise them, and my late husband and I had a pair years ago. The best dogs in the world! Wonderful closeup of his eye.

A good Dog is truly mans best friend, I can understand your sentiments. I had an Alaskan Malamute, Kilo, as a best friend for nearly 20 years when he passed of old age.It was many years before I was finally able to bring myself to get another animal but I got ZoSo last year, an Australian Kelpie, I'm hoping he will outlive me. Peace

It is sad when the big dogs get old...especially when they are one of the special ones. One of my friends is going through that right now. It breaks the heart.

Beautiful tribute to a loyal companion. Nice to see a post before they go, as you can look at this and at him before the end. Fourteen years is a ripe age for a Shepard type dog, you did very well for him.

This is a superb and touching shot; I think it captures the real personality of Rex, while also commenting on 14 great years! This is a marvelous, touching canine portrait. Beautiful!

This is a very touching homage and image. I know from experience how hard it is to let go. Rex sounds like a noble and courageous dog and better company than many humans. Hopefully, when his time comes, he will go peacefully in his sleep.
