There are a lot of misinformation stories about this butterfly… First was last year in July when Marie did her examination walk (to become a Nature guide) in Marbehan: the examinator blamed her for not recognizing the Marsh Fritillary (Damier de la succise) and in fact it wasn’t a Marsh Fritillary, but a False Heath Fritillary( Melitaea diamina) (Damier noir or Mélitée noirâtre)… Yesterday, when visiting the Plate Dessous les Monts Certified Nature Reserve in Tintigny, the conservator (a world expert in plants and ferns,but not so good in birds and butterflies…) thought it was also a Marsh Fritillary but at least this time the butterfly was on Succisa pratensis (succise des prés)… Pour comparer les 5 espèces de Damiers, voir ici !
