Description

The red cliffs of Sedona, Arizona, are actually made up of limestone that was laid down when this area was under a shallow sea. Limestone is a rather neutral color on its own, but this area contains quite a bit of iron oxide (rust) that has stained the limestone to its present color. The red rocks are quite beautiful and dramatic, and are a popular tourist destination. The day we flew around this area, we were the only plane in the sky. It was just an amazing experience. Those of you familiar with small planes can imagine what it was like flying over those rock formations. You feel every dip and peak, and there's a connection with the land that you wouldn't imagine you'd have up there.

Wow doesn't come close to how amazing this shot is. I've been to Sedona, seen these rocks, but this view gives you so much more--so all I can say is WOW!!
