The result is staggering - the storks look so alien with the postwork treatment, as do the foreground shrubs ... sublime, BB

That's too cute! I love birds, nice post-work

Yes BB. I used a filter to simplify the shrubbery and it created a woodgrain look on the beaks and legs of the birds! I thought to myself "How cool is that!~ Wooden woodstorks! Whenever I use filters, I always do it on a separate layer so I can use it globally or only in areas where I choose to put a filter. In this case the filter is only on the heads, beaks and legs of the birds and on the shrubbery.

Even before I read your second comment, I knew exactly what you'd done. The effect is perfect on their heads and on the branches! Excellent choice! I bet the feathers looked funny with that filter. (Although I was using a filter a few years ago that I thought would do amazing things to hair, and it barely touched it. You just never know!) The split toning looks great on this image, too. Nicely done, girl!

This is quite exquisite! They vaguely resemble the sorts of aliens David Brin would have written about in his "Uplift" novels. I like that accidental reference, but the picture itself stands completely on its own without anyone importing outside stuff into it, and I love the postwork choices you've made. Marvelous work. You've captured the essence of these beauties and I like them, I think, as much as I like "go away birds", pelicans, grackles, and many other fine, feathered people. Great work!
