Description

Created in Photoshop CS4 using Wacom intuos3 tablet and pen. This is Bastet Ancient Egyptian cat goddess, and often known as Bast, I have created her before as a photo manipulation here, and this time I was very keen to paint her digitally. Most of my artwork has cats within it, so it was always going to be that I chose Bastet to paint for my first Egyptian god. Sitting next to Bastet on a granary jar is the wonderful Egyptian Mau cat, the breed apparently still looks the same as when it was the chosen cats to sit with kings and queens in ancient Egypt. Bastet was often to be seen as a lioness, then with a lionesses head, but as time went by and her role changed, it is said that she acquired a pet cats head instead. I used one of my own cats head (Mistapus) as painting reference. He is a British Shorthair another breed that apparently was around in Ancient Egyptian times. Bastet is holding the sacred 'sistrum' in her hand, it is believed this musical intrument of the percussion family probably originated in the worship of Bastet. I hope you are all well today and that you like my painting, yes the cats are back, and my next upload will be of a very big painted cat, of the wild kind. Thank you so much for the view, for all your support with comments and faves, I do so appreciate it my dear Rendo friends. Sorry my comments are short these days, but it is the hands playing up again. hugs Jane xx Don't forget to zoom xx.

Great work Jane, I really find their eyes so striking. You got their brilliance and that intense feline stare. The painted fur on Bastets face is really excellent - it looks really soft in the delicate way of cats. It looks like a long haired version of a mau, with great spotted markings. It is a lovely scene you put them into, you can feel the heat of the Egyptian day.

Sis, first of all it let me say how much brighter my nights are when I see one of your lovely posts. This one is spectacular as you did a wonderful job bringing her to life in your painting. You are always careful to pay close attention to detail and it is marvelous to know the cats are back.

Being owned by three cats, I fully appreciate your cat pictures. Bastet...one of the names of the cats of Radcliff Emerson and Amelia Peabody Emerson of the Amelia Peabody mystery series by Elizabeth Peters. If you haven't read them, give them a try. They are great fun. You have to start with the first one when they first meet in Egypt. I love Bastet's eyes! Wonderful work Jane!
