Description
Captured 7/4/11, early in the AM, from within the congenial, but sometimes contentious, confines of my condominium complex.
And taking a respite from the lovely koi.
ZOOM for better detail.
Agapanthus is the only genus in the subfamily Agapanthoideae of the flowering plant family Amaryllidaceae. The family is in the monocot order Asparagales.
Agapanthus is commonly known as "Lily of the Nile", but it is not a lily and all of the species are native to South Africa from the cape to the Limpopo River.
Species boundaries are not clear in the genus, and in spite of having been intensively studied, the number of species recognized by different authorities varies from six to ten. The type species for the genus is Agapanthus africanus. A great many hybrids and cultivars have been produced and they are cultivated throughout warm areas of the world.

In regards to my community, and neighboring communities, this species is all over the place, and in many instances, grows profusely on street dividers for as far as the eye can see.
Toodles, thankx for coming by, and for any and all favs and complimentary comments.

So many times while watching tv shows (filmed in California, of course), I have seen beds of these blooming beautifully. Wish I could grow them here!

They can be quite ubiquitous in their domain; public areas in all the cities I've lived in seem to rely heavily on them, for their size, hardiness and ease of care. This is a real beauty (even the bee likes it!), well captured Harry!

I love the Agapanthus it is such a no fuss plant to grow and gives wonderful flowers and is nice and tidy when not flowering. It also doesn't need much water. A great capture of this plant.
