Description

Yup! Not a mess, but a mesh! Photos taken today (July 11, 2011, 18:00) of the Triangle construction site. The two concrete "sarcophagi" are now completely enmeshed in iron reinforcing rods. The lighter areas are the "sarcophagi" while the darker areas are the sunk down areas between them - containing a LOT of iron rods! All ready for a concrete bath! The right hand photo is looking to the right (south). It appears they will be extending the iron reinforcements at least to the end of the "catamaran hull-like" extensions before pouring the concrete. The size of the area can be discerned by the edges of the flat concrete foundation plate seen in the background extending to the wall. Watching the men construct this is fascinating - placing rods on the ground, welding vertical rods to them, tying horizontals to those, then welding horizontals onto them, then laying out parallel rods at exact distances and weaving them between each other. Not a job for a single worker - this craves cooperation! Enjoy!

Sure this isn't a bomb-proof underground bunker? ;-) I hope nobody ever wants to clear this ground for some other project one day. Reminds me of Fort DeRussey in Hawaii (Battery Randolph). It sits on Waikiki Beach and is an old coastal artillery fortification (decommissioned at the end of WWII). The Army was going to take it out in the 1960s but decided it was impossible without explosives...all reinforced concrete. Explosives were out of the question with dozens of high rise hotels surrounding it (think shattered windows). Today it is a first class Army museum and will be for many years to come:)
