About half the area has now been filled with concrete. In the left photo the concrete is being poured out of the thick hose and spread out. Maneuvering that hose is heavy work! The concrete is quite wet here, hence the deceptively smooth appearance.
The right photo is taken 10 minutes later. The concrete is starting to set. Here it is being smoothed with a 2 bar apparatus. In the middle and the upper end of this apparatus there are 2 yellow vibrators which facilitate smoothing the concrete and pulling the apparatus. Pulling is still quite heavy work, as can be seen on the positions held by the men doing the pulling.
By 18:00 the job was done and some tired (and presumably satisfied) workers had gone home.
I counted some 17 men in the excavation, working with concrete and other things.

Looks like timing and teamwork is everything...too slow and you'd have a concrete mess on your hands! This somehow reminds me of 'gandy dancers'...a group of men with long pry bars and others with sledge hammers placing, straightening and spiking railroad rails into place.
