Description

I had an opportunity to take photographs at Critical Massive last week (a regional Burning Man event), which was lots of fun! While I'd rather do candid portraiture, the rules of photography at the event said anyone with a camera had to ask permission before taking a picture, so everything I got was posed. (There's nothing wrong with posed portraiture, I just prefer a more relaxed look.) This guy was wonderfully agreeable, and I got several shots of him and his two friends.

Er, you dare associate with wild people like this? This isn't Bill at home, is he? Or am I mistaken? Bill's alter ego? Somehow I can't avoid thinking of a Norwegian Viking ready to defend his home from encroaching foreigners. The only anachronisms are the funny glasses and the bottle. These make the photo rather comical. Just IS this guy as dangerous as he looks? Or... I'd rather not want to find out. Good, fun photo Tara! More from this strange event! :-)

Yeah, I know what you mean... you probably could have gotten some wonderful candids there if you were allowed to.

I get the feeling that he's channeling one of Elton John's ancestors...I think it both the glasses and the garb. I love the outfit, by the way! The whole shot is marvelous and it came out quite well...and I have to say, This is a guy I'd drink with. I'd love to see candid shots from the event, but I suspect that the rules as they are, exist for some pretty overtly sensible reasons. Weird how that works! This is excellent!

Ah yes, some great costumes were seen at that event and your poser was one of the best! And remembering all the jumbled background...your postwork is superb:)

A fine portrait of this cooperative character in his interesting party garb.

My first thought was "Snapple, the official drink of Vikings" but on closer inspection this is probably a Pyramid beer. A wonderful portrait of this sea raider. I agree the glasses and bottle lend a comical air to the portrait. He's probably the only Viking who would hold open the door for you.

Oh my, it's a great portrait, and the costume is marvelous, but the glasses and bottle do kind of ruin the look, don't they? Interesting character study!

Ahahahaha!! I LOVE this! The contradiction between his garb and the glasses and bottle of juice is just wonderful! I think this is actually much better posed than it would be candid - it just adds to the humor. And it certainly doesn't hurt that the guy is so willing! Great one, Tara!
