Description

Svartifoss (Black Fall in icelandic) is a waterfall in Skaftafell National Park in Iceland, and is one of the most popular sights in the park. It is surrounded by dark lava columns, which give rise to its name. The hexagonal columns were formed inside a lava flow which cooled extremely slowly, giving rise to crystallization. Similar well-known lava formations are seen at the Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland, and on the island of Staffa in Scotland.

This photo was taken on my fourth visit to Iceland, on a dark and rainy day, but the magic of the place was still there ! Please zoom !

Thank you very much for making time to comment on my latest Swiss pic, I appreciate...

The shapes of the rocks give this an otherworldly feel .. one would never have guessed they were natural lava formations! A breathtaking image!!

What a dreamy composition! The fall appears so very powerful, and yet it still makes me want to be "part" of it... in any way. How awesome this is..... simply sublime. The power of water has always fascinated me.... I love the POV here.... a beautiful presentation!

Je vois que tu maitrises à la perfection le D80 et le super Nikkor 105 mm (j'ai le même matériel): une vitesse suffisamment lente pour donner cette impression figée et suffisamment rapide pour garder l'image du mouvement... Vraiment parfait ! :~)

That's a great capture. The slow shutter speed really gives a dramatic effect and the rich wet colors are gorgeous. I also love the way you have matted this image, their is great color balance and the subtle texture is appealing.
